How to Properly Lift Heavy Objects

Every year, many people hurt their back lifting heavy objects, and the more awkward the size, the more chance of lifting it improperly. Cheyenne Hauling is a Cheyenne-based junk removal company. HOW TO PROPERLY LIFT HEAVY OBJECTS

Lift With a Buddy

If at all possible, try to enlist the help of a friend (or two!) to help you lift heavy objects. This will help distribute the weight and lessen the risk of lifting improperly.

Set Your Feet Shoulder-Width Apart and Squat

You’ll need a wide base of support for lifting heavy objects, so set your feet about shoulder-width apart and then squat down to lift.

Keep Your Back Straight

As you lift, you’ll want to maintain good posture. By looking ahead, you’ll be able to keep your back straight. Keep your shoulders out to help, too.

Don’t Lift Above Shoulder Level

When you pick up the object, use your legs and keep the object close to the body. You never want to lift an object above shoulder level, which increases the pressure on your back.

Squat to Set the Object Down

You’ll want to mimic the motion you used to pick up the object, only in the reverse. Squat to put the object back on the ground, keeping good posture. Don’t hinge at the hips and bend over to do so
